The Deputy Head of the Chinese Diplomatic Mission in Kuwait, Counselor Liu Xiang, said relations between Kuwait and China continue to witness growing momentum across various sectors, particularly in cultural and humanitarian exchange, under the strategic guidance of the leaderships of both countries.
Speaking during a cultural event hosted Tuesday evening by the Chinese Cultural Center under the title “Harmony of Strings and Ink: Dialogue and Communication,” Liu stressed the importance of dialogue and cultural exchange in strengthening understanding and rapprochement among peoples.
The event, organized on the occasion of the upcoming International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, was held under the supervision of China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait, in cooperation with the Chinese Cultural Center and the Kuwaiti Craftsmen Association. The initiative aimed to promote cultural exchange and deepen mutual understanding between the Chinese and Kuwaiti peoples.
Liu noted that despite geographical distance and differing cultural backgrounds, Kuwait and China share common values rooted in openness, tolerance, and mutual respect. He added that both nations firmly believe in dialogue and mutual learning among civilizations.
He highlighted that diplomatic ties between the two countries have maintained a steady and progressive trajectory for the past 55 years, evolving into a distinguished example of understanding and cooperation between nations of different civilizations.
Liu also praised the Chinese Cultural Center in Kuwait — the first Chinese cultural center in the Gulf region — which officially opened last year and has since become an important platform for enhancing cultural communication and people-to-people ties.
He pointed to the active cultural cooperation witnessed over the past year, including archaeological exhibitions organized by the House of Islamic Antiquities in several Chinese cities, which contributed significantly to strengthening cultural interaction and mutual learning between the two countries.
The Chinese diplomat further stressed that the occasion carries special significance amid growing global challenges and ongoing conflicts, noting that dialogue among civilizations has become more essential than ever in building bridges of understanding and promoting international peace and stability.
For her part, Acting Assistant Secretary-General for the Islamic Antiquities Sector, Sheikha Dr. Al-Anoud Al-Sabah, said that the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations conveys a noble humanitarian message and offers an annual opportunity to reflect on ways to foster peace and understanding among nations.
She underlined the United Nations’ emphasis on dialogue as the most effective tool to combat extremism, promote tolerance, and protect societies from division, adding that no civilization can flourish in isolation or develop without interaction with others.
Sheikha Dr. Al-Anoud noted that the Gulf region and the Arab world, with their rich cultural heritage, have historically served as a meeting point for civilizations and cultures and a home for diversity. She emphasized the region’s important role in supporting global dialogue through cultural and educational initiatives that encourage openness and mutual understanding.
She also described Kuwait and China as a successful model of cultural diplomacy, noting that continuous exchange and joint initiatives between cultural institutions in both countries have helped bridge geographical and cultural distances while strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
