CSC says approval must for Eid Al-Adha holiday extension

In light of the upcoming Eid Al-Adha holiday, the Civil Service Commission sources explained that government employees wishing to extend the official holiday period to a full 10 days may submit a request for periodic leave covering Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday — June 10, 11, and 12 — on the condition that they return to work on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Sources told Al-Anba that, according to the Civil Service Regulations, periodic leave must be requested by the employee and can only be taken after formal approval. “Employees may not begin their leave unless they are notified of its approval,” the sources clarified.

However, the CSC emphasized that leave requests must be submitted before the official holiday begins on Thursday, June 5, and not afterward. Additionally, any extension of leave beyond the approved period requires a separate request and prior approval.

The Civil Service System regulations also specify that no employee is allowed to be absent either immediately before or after the official holiday. Absences surrounding the holiday period will result in all intervening days, including public holidays and rest days, being recorded as unexcused absences.

Meanwhile, the CSC has officially announced the holiday schedule for Eid Al-Adha (1446 AH), stating that Thursday to Sunday (June 5 to 8, 2025) will be observed as public holidays, and Monday, June 9, will be a rest day. Regular work will resume on Tuesday, June 10.

For entities with unique operational requirements, holiday schedules will be determined by their respective authorities, in accordance with the public interest.
