Kuwait Airport Restores Operations with Limited Daily Flights Under Temporary Schedule

DGCA confirms 4 AM–10 PM operating window as Terminal 1 resumes services and airlines gradually restart operations

Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 1 (T1) has resumed operations following a temporary shutdown period, with airlines gradually reinstating services to and from the country under a controlled operational framework.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), flight operations are currently being conducted within a temporary daily schedule from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM, as part of a phased approach to restore normal airport activity.

Officials confirmed that the initial stage of reopening includes a restriction allowing each airline to operate one round-trip service per day, with air traffic expected to increase gradually as the system stabilizes.

The first arriving flight was operated by Etihad Airways, which landed at 9:55 AM, while an IndiGo service from Mumbai also arrived on the same morning as operations resumed. Authorities noted that a total of 18 arrival and departure flights were scheduled for the day.

So far, around 20 airlines have submitted applications and received approvals to resume operations, with further increases in flight frequency expected in the coming days as preparations continue ahead of the peak summer travel period.

Passengers have been advised to adhere to updated airport procedures, including early arrival requirements and revised check-in closure timings, which vary depending on destination. Check-in counters for GCC and Arab destinations close one hour prior to departure, while counters for other international flights close one-and-a-half hours before departure.

Travellers are advised to arrive at the airport at least four hours before departure to ensure smooth processing under the current operational system. The baggage drop-off service one day prior to travel remains suspended for most airlines and is currently available only in limited form for Kuwait Airways.

Airport authorities stated that coordination with relevant agencies is ongoing to ensure a gradual and orderly restoration of services while maintaining international safety and operational standards.
