U.S. scales back embassy staff in Iraq, affirms full operations in Kuwait amid security review

In response to growing regional tensions and security assessments, the United States has announced a reduction in staff at its embassy in Iraq, while confirming that operations at its mission in Kuwait remain unchanged and fully functional.

In a statement issued by the Government Press Agency (GPA), a U.S. official said, “President Trump is committed to keeping Americans safe both at home and abroad. In keeping with that commitment, we are constantly assessing the appropriate personnel posture at all our embassies. Based on our latest analysis, we decided to reduce the footprint of our Mission in Iraq.”

The move comes amid increasing security concerns in the region, prompting the U.S. State Department to reassess its diplomatic presence in several Middle Eastern countries. While the decision to scale back in Iraq reflects those concerns, the GPA emphasized that the situation in Kuwait remains stable.
