Worker's confession leads CID to Hawally counterfeit stamp ring selling fake government stamps at half price; two expats arrested in police custody
Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have arrested two Asians for operating a counterfeit government stamp manufacturing workshop inside their apartment in Hawally.
During the raid the CID men seized a large quantity of fake official stamps ready for distribution, along with printing equipment and materials used.
According to a security source, CID men are looking for other accomplices involved in distributing the counterfeit stamps, which were allegedly sold through cleaning workers at government hospitals, who reportedly sold the forged stamps to patients who found it difficult to move around hospital premises.
Acting on tip-off CID men arrested a sanitation worker who was caught affixing a forged government stamp to documents belonging to a patient using a wheelchair.
During interrogation, the worker allegedly admitted obtaining the counterfeit stamps from two expatriates operating from Hawally. Investigators said the suspects sold KD10 government stamps for KD5 and KD5 stamps for KD2, effectively offering them at half their official value.
The detectives then raided the residence of the two suspects and found a well-maintained makeshift workshop equipped with specialized printing tools and counterfeit stamp-making materials.
The men have been referred to Public Prosecution.
