KCC Board is pleased to announce the continuation of Muthumudalige Pushpakumar as the National Coach of Kuwait Cricket for a contractual period of two years (2022-2023).
Pushpakumar, the former international cricketer from Sri Lanka joined the Kuwait National Men’s set up in 2019 and has helped Kuwait qualify for the final leg of ACC Asia Cup Qualifiers against all odds leaving behind much higher-ranked Asian countries in ICC T20I global rankings. Kuwait will take on UAE, Singapore & Hong Kong in August 2022 and the winner will go on to play the Asia Cup against India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh & Afghanistan.
Although Kuwait suffered a major setback in ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Qatar (Oct 2021) where Kuwait lost out on a much-anticipated qualification, however, Kuwait was the only team that comprehensively beat Bahrain who ended up qualifying for the ICC Global qualifiers after having beaten Qatar & Saudi Arabia comprehensively. Kuwait will have another shot at the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers that is scheduled to take place in Q4 2022 / Q1 2023.
Pushpakumar will also continue to develop the national teams of juniors, women’s and Kuwaiti nationals with the support of KCC & ICC certified coaches & head of departments/managers with a long-term strategy & vision in mind as laid down by the KCC board with set targets & KPI’s.
Wishing our National Coach Muthumudalige Pushpakumar all the best on his journey with the Kuwait Cricket fraternity.
