Undercover agents unearth ‘deportations for cash scheme’

The Criminal Court, presided over by Abdulwahab Al-Muaili, has sentenced a military officer to 10 years in prison, imposed a fine of 800 dinars, and ordered his dismissal from service after convicting him of orchestrating illegal deportations of expatriates in exchange for money.
The case dates back to an operation carried out by officers in the Abu Futaira area. Authorities arrested the officer, who had been working at a police station in the Capital Governorate, after showing his involvement in fabricating charges against expatriates.
Investigations showed that the officer accepted 500 dinars bribe per case from individuals seeking to deport others out of personal disputes or revenge.
Case papers show, the officer allegedly falsified official documents and registered fabricated violations against victims to justify their deportation.
The arrest followed verified intelligence that prompted authorities to conduct a sting operation. An undercover individual approached the officer, posing as someone seeking to deport another person. Once the officer accepted 500 dinars in marked currency, officers moved in and arrested the alleged person to deported and falsified a report that the was caught ‘in the act’.
During questioning before the Public Prosecution, the accused reportedly confessed in detail to the charges, admitting he had received money in exchange for facilitating deportations after falsifying documents.
