Ministry urges Kuwait’s mosques to adopt energy-saving practices

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has urged mosques across Kuwait to implement measures, including closing mosque grounds and restricting prayers to courtyards, while setting air conditioning to 25°C in auto mode during daily prayers.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced scheduled power outages in mosques across the six governorates, from half an hour after the noon call to prayer until before the afternoon prayer, and from after the afternoon prayer until 5 pm.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has issued a circular to mosques across the countrys six governorates urging them to conserve electricity by implementing the following measures, including closing the mosque grounds and restricting prayers to the mosque courtyard during the five daily prayers while setting the air conditioning to 25°C (or its equivalent in Fahrenheit) in auto mode.

The ministry said the Holy Mosque will be open only for Friday prayers, with the air conditioning set to 22°C (or its equivalent in Fahrenheit) in auto mode from after the Isha prayer on Thursday until after the prayer ends and worshippers leave.

It also stated that all women’s prayer rooms in mosques will be closed, except for those hosting religious courses and lessons, where the air conditioning should be set to 25°C (or its equivalent in Fahrenheit) in auto mode, with the prayer rooms closed after the lessons or courses end.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs stated that based on the message received from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy regarding the scheduled power outages in all mosques in the six governorates starting today.

The outages will occur from half an hour after the noon call to prayer until a quarter of an hour before the afternoon prayer, and from half an hour after the afternoon prayer until 5 pm.

The ministry advised all imams and muezzins to shorten the iqamah for the noon and afternoon prayers and not to prolong the prayer.
