At least 35 killed, 30 injured in deadly bus collision on Damascus–Deir ez-Zor Highway

At least 35 people were killed and 30 others injured in a devastating traffic accident on the Damascus–Deir ez-Zor highway on Saturday after a bus carrying members of Syria’s Internal Security Forces collided with a civilian bus in eastern Homs province.

According to Syrian state media, the crash occurred in the area between Al-Sukhnah and Palmyra, triggering a major emergency response.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense dispatched military helicopters to evacuate the injured and transport victims to Homs Military Hospital, while emergency teams rushed to the scene to assist survivors.

The Syrian Civil Defense, operating under the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, said rescue teams from Palmyra, supported by units from Deir ez-Zor, extinguished a fire that erupted following the collision and continued rescue operations.

Emergency crews provided first aid to the injured before transferring them to Palmyra Hospital for treatment.

They also recovered the victims’ bodies, secured the accident site and worked with the relevant authorities to clear the aftermath of one of the country’s deadliest road accidents in recent months.
