Guardiola rejects David Beckham’s Inter Miami offer amid break from coaching plans

For now, Guardiola is said to view the England national team role as his most appealing next step—should it become available in the future.

A report in the British press has revealed that Spanish manager Pep Guardiola has turned down an approach from former England star David Beckham to take charge of Major League Soccer side Inter Miami CF.

According to The Mirror, Beckham, co-owner of the American club, identified Guardiola as his primary target to replace Argentine coach Javier Mascherano, who stepped down last month.

Club sources indicated that Inter Miami’s hierarchy opted to delay appointing a permanent successor, instead exploring the possibility of convincing Guardiola to make a surprise move to the United States and lead a squad featuring global superstar Lionel Messi.

Beckham reportedly views the potential appointment as a transformative moment for both Inter Miami and Major League Soccer, particularly given Guardiola’s previous successful working relationship with Messi during their time at FC Barcelona.

However, the Spanish coach is understood to have made it clear that Beckham’s pursuit is unlikely to succeed, signalling that he is not considering an immediate return to management.

Guardiola recently stepped down from his role at Manchester City after the conclusion of his contract and is currently taking a planned break from football to rest and spend time with his family.

Inter Miami had reportedly hoped to engage Guardiola during preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup across the United States, Canada and Mexico. However, the 53-year-old is not expected to attend the tournament this summer.

Sources close to the coach suggest that Guardiola is increasingly inclined towards a future role in international management rather than club football. This stance has attracted interest from the English Football Association.

The FA had previously explored the possibility of appointing Guardiola following the departure of Gareth Southgate in 2024, although no agreement was reached at the time.

Despite earlier setbacks, Guardiola remains among the leading candidates linked with the England job in the long term, particularly with current coach Thomas Tuchel contracted through Euro 2028. His future, however, is expected to depend heavily on England’s performances at the next World Cup.
