Former England captain and football legend David Beckham will receive a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame on June 12 in Los Angeles, just before a FIFA World Cup match on U.S. soil.
Organizers said Beckham is being honored for his major role in raising soccer’s profile in America. His impact includes his playing career with LA Galaxy and his current role as co-owner of Inter Miami, the MLS club that signed Lionel Messi.
Beckham enjoyed a trophy-filled career with Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and England before retiring in 2013. The honor comes as the United States prepares to co-host the FIFA World Cup with Mexico and Canada.
