US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday thatnegotiations between his country and Iran remain ongoing, stressing that the time has come for Tehran to conclude a long-awaited agreement with Washington.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said discussions between the two sides are continuing on a regular basis, dismissing recent media reports claiming that contacts between Washington and Tehran had been suspended as “false and misleading.”
“Talks between us are continuing continuously,” Trump said, adding that while the outcome of the negotiations remains uncertain, he had conveyed a clear message to Iran that “the time has come, one way or another, to make a deal.” The US president argued that Iran has followed the same approach for nearly five decades and said the situation could not be allowed to continue indefinitely.
Trump’s remarks came a day after he said the US administration had not been informed of any Iranian decision to freeze negotiations in protest over Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
Speaking to US media on Monday, Trump said, “They did not inform us of such a decision,” adding that he was not concerned by reports of a suspension in talks.
He stressed that the continuation of diplomatic efforts did not imply a shift toward military action, saying the United States would maintain what he described as a “very effective and very strong” pressure campaign against Iran.
Trump had also announced on Monday via Truth Social that the group Hezbollah and Israel had agreed to halt mutual attacks and cease all exchanges of fire as part of efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.
