. . . project reflects Kuwait’s strategic push to modernize key recreational sites, boost tourism investment and promote sustainable development -- Minister Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi

Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi described the Green Island development project as one of Kuwait’s most promising national tourism initiatives, reflecting an ambitious direction to modernize recreational facilities and enhance the country’s position as an integrated tourist and cultural destination.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Tourism Projects Company to announce the project, in cooperation with Global Integrated Services Company for General Trading and Contracting, Al-Mutairi said the redevelopment aligns with the state’s priorities to optimally invest in vital sites with environmental and heritage value and transform them into added value for society and the national economy. The event was attended by the Minister of Municipality and the Director General of Kuwait Municipality, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Mutairi explained that the project aims to offer an integrated visitor experience based on clear operational standards, including quality, safety and ease of access, while placing environmental sustainability at the heart of design and operations. This includes practical solutions for rationalizing resources, managing waste and preserving the site’s natural elements, ensuring long-term benefits for future generations.

He stressed that these major projects are being implemented under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah, noting that such support is a key pillar in accelerating tourism development, diversifying the national economy and improving quality of life.

Al-Mutairi underlined that the success of major projects requires unified efforts, adding that the ministry places special focus on developing the tourism promotion system and strengthening Kuwait’s regional and international presence through modern digital initiatives, most notably the “Visit Kuwait” platform, which serves as an integrated gateway to the country’s tourism, cultural and heritage assets.

For his part, Vice Chairman and CEO of Abaad Real Estate Group Khaled Al-Marzouq said the project will include a range of elements combining tourism, culture and education, such as an entertainment club, open-air theatre, restaurants and sports clubs.

Meanwhile, CEO of the Tourism Projects Company Anwar Al-Halila said the redevelopment aims to redefine this historic landmark and transform it into a fully integrated tourism and entertainment destination with advanced capabilities, contributing to strengthening Kuwait’s position and opening new horizons for investment and lifestyle development.

In a related context, Al-Mutairi met with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Chairman of beIN Media Group, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in media fields and exchange expertise to support the development of the content industry.

The meeting reviewed prospects for collaboration in content creation and broadcasting, as well as partnership opportunities that support professional media and keep pace with rapid transformations in the sector. Discussions also covered the role of media in empowering youth, highlighting their creative energies and expanding cooperation in training and professional development.
