Kuwait banks deploy advanced virtual war room to combat rising cyber fraud threats

. . . to protect customer funds

The Kuwait Banking Association is stepping up efforts to combat electronic financial fraud by enhancing the role of its virtual central operations chamber, in line with directives from the Central Bank of Kuwait.

Abdulwahab Al-Duaij, head of the Anti-Fraud Committee at the association, said the virtual chamber has evolved into an advanced national system designed to detect and respond to financial cybercrime. The platform operates through direct coordination with key authorities, including the Ministry of Interior and the Public Prosecution.

He explained that the system enables immediate action to halt fraudulent transactions, trace stolen funds, and initiate legal procedures without delay. This level of integration, he noted, reflects Kuwait’s strong institutional readiness to protect customers’ assets and maintain financial stability.

Al-Duaij added that the chamber has moved beyond being a reactive tool to becoming a proactive platform that monitors emerging fraud patterns. These include scams involving fake communications, fraudulent data update links, misleading advertisements, and false prize claims targeting bank customers, reports Al-Rai daily.

He emphasized that rapid decision-making is now a critical security requirement, highlighting that the system has significantly reduced response times and improved the efficiency of handling fraud reports. This has helped limit financial losses and safeguard customer rights within established legal frameworks.

Al-Duaij also urged customers to remain vigilant, warning against sharing banking details or confidential codes under any circumstances. He stressed that banks never request such information via phone calls, text messages, or online links.

He concluded that protecting customer funds is a shared national responsibility, adding that the virtual central chamber will continue to evolve to address emerging threats and strengthen public confidence in Kuwait’s banking sector.
