Kuwait showcases live Al-Sadu Weaving at Expo Osaka 2025

The Al-Sadu Crafts Association represented Kuwait at Expo Osaka 2025 with a live demonstration of Al-Sadu weaving, a traditional craft recognized as part of the country’s intangible cultural heritage and listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The association highlighted that the performance, presented by weavers Manar Ma’arifi, Sanaa Al-Adwani, Mastoura Al-Shihan, and Fad’a Al-Omar, reflects the authenticity of the craft and its role in expressing Kuwaiti identity.

Showcasing Skills and Cultural Heritage

Visitors to the pavilion were able to observe the stages of hand-weaving, gaining insight into how Kuwaiti women transform wool threads into textiles that carry the symbols of the desert environment and Bedouin life.

The exhibition aims to raise global awareness of Al-Sadu as an art form that merges beauty and functionality, while also highlighting Kuwait’s efforts to preserve traditional crafts and support the economic empowerment of women artisans through training, production, and sustainable marketing.

Cultural Diplomacy and Heritage Promotion

The event was attended by the Honorary President of the Sadu Crafts Society, Sheikha Altaf Salem Al Ali, and the Director General, Sheikha Bibi Duaij Jaber Al Ali, who emphasized Al-Sadu’s role as an ambassador of Kuwaiti heritage and a message of cultural dialogue between nations.

The association stated that its participation in Expo Osaka 2025 is part of ongoing efforts to promote Kuwaiti crafts internationally and exchange expertise with global communities.
