Kuwait resumes air traffic after temporary closure; 11 flights diverted for passenger safety

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced the resumption of air traffic operations after a temporary closure of the country’s airspace that lasted for two hours as a precautionary measure following missile and drone attacks launched by Iran.

According to a statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Kuwait’s airspace was temporarily closed from 4:15 a.m. until 6:15 a.m. on Saturday after the country came under attack from missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The DGCA said all relevant authorities activated emergency response plans and procedures to ensure the safety of passengers, flight crews, and aviation-related facilities.

During the closure, 11 flights operated by Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways were diverted to nearby airports as a precaution to safeguard passengers and crew and to maintain operational continuity in line with the highest safety and security standards.

The authority noted that, following coordination with the concerned agencies and after confirming the stabilization of the situation and the removal of potential risks, air navigation services resumed and flights were allowed to operate from 6:15 a.m.

The DGCA added that flights previously diverted to Dammam and Riyadh airports were subsequently returned to Kuwait International Airport after the reopening of Kuwaiti airspace.
