A commercial tanker has been struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UK Maritime Trade Operations), in a new incident highlighting ongoing security risks in one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.
The agency said the incident occurred on Saturday morning northwest of Oman at around 08:00 UTC. In a statement shared on social media, UKMTO said the master of the vessel reported being hit by an unknown projectile while transiting the area.
“The vessel sustained damage to its bridge; all crew are reported safe. No environmental damage reported at present,” the agency confirmed.
The latest incident adds to a series of maritime security disruptions in the region in recent days, including a separate attack on a container ship attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz via an alternative route near Oman.
That earlier incident prompted the International Maritime Organization (International Maritime Organization) to delay planned evacuation measures for thousands of seafarers pending further security assessments.
The Strait of Hormuz remains under heightened monitoring as authorities assess risks to commercial shipping and global energy flows passing through the strategic waterway.
