South African Ambassador hosts farewell luncheon for Kuwaiti journalists
The Ambassador of South Africa to the State of Kuwait, H. E. Dr. Manelisi Genge, hosted a luncheon in honor of local journalists to mark the conclusion of his tenure in Kuwait.
During the event, the Ambassador expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the media fraternity for their collaboration in showcasing the South African Embassy’s efforts to strengthen the bilateral relations between South Africa and Kuwait.
In a heartfelt speech thanking local journalists, the Ambassador said, that they have contributed greatly to conveying the true image of his country and its most important achievements, helping the embassy in developing the friendly relations that bind them. Also, the Ambassador thanked them from the bottom of his heart and requested that the journalists do the same to his successor.
The Ambassador also highlighted the significant rise in tourism to South Africa this year, noting that the country has become a top destination for Kuwaiti tourists. Importantly, Kuwaitis are now flocking to South Africa to experience its stunning wildlife, picturesque landscapes, and unique attractions.
Moreover, the Ambassador credited his efforts in securing the exemption of visa fees for Kuwaitis last year, making South Africa even more accessible and inviting for Kuwaiti tourists.
The Ambassador also acknowledged the invaluable support the embassy received from Kuwait’s business community, which played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations between South Africa and Kuwait.
On future business opportunities, the Ambassador highlighted the significant growth in trade between the South Africa and Kuwait, attributing this success to the signing of the Joint Commission for Cooperation Agreement and the entry into force of the Protocol amending the agreement between both the Governments for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion.
Additionally, the Ambassador noted the successful negotiation of other agreements and memorandums of understanding, which are now ready for signing.
The Ambassador also highlighted the important role Kuwaiti companies’ importing of South African food products has played in contributing to Kuwait’s food security goals.
The Ambassador further recalled the landmark visit of South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation to Kuwait in 2021, which he described as a pivotal moment in strengthening the bilateral political relations between South Africa and Kuwait.
On a departing note, the Ambassador expressed his heartfelt sentiments, stating, that he will leave Kuwait wiser, thanks to his interactions with dear colleagues, ambassadors, and friends, as well as his engagements with officials of the host country.
The Ambassador categorically mentioned that he will be leaving Kuwait with fond memories, which he will cherish for the rest of his life. What a beautiful country with equally nice and friendly people.
As a farewell to Ambassador Genge, he will be greatly admired and remembered for his significant efforts as a distinguished diplomat, in advancing bilateral relations, fostering lasting friendships, and promoting South Africa’s foreign policy of democracy, equality, and peace.
