Kuwaiti medics showcase expertise at 56th Urology Conference in the Netherlands

Kuwaiti doctors are putting the country’s medical expertise in the international spotlight, leading a specialized scientific and training workshop at the 56th Annual Conference of the International Society for Urinary Control in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

Held from October 6 to 9, the prestigious gathering brings together around 2,000 doctors, experts and specialists from around the world to discuss the latest research, clinical practices and advances in the diagnosis and treatment of urinary control disorders, bladder function and pelvic floor conditions, giving Kuwait’s medical professionals a platform to share expertise, exchange knowledge and contribute to advancing specialized urological care.

The Kuwaiti medical team conducted a 90-minute workshop titled “Avoiding Overtreatment in Functional Urology,” focusing on the importance of accurate clinical assessment and evidence-based treatment decisions while avoiding unnecessary tests, procedures and interventions.

The workshop featured interactive discussions based on real clinical cases, examining how doctors can balance different treatment options and distinguish between patients who require medical intervention and those who may benefit more from conservative treatment.

A key focus was also placed on involving patients in treatment decisions, reflecting the importance of individualized care and informed clinical choices.

The workshop was chaired by Dr. Tariq Al-Shayji, Consultant Urologist and Functional Urologist and Head of the Urology Unit at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital. He was joined by Dr. Mishari Al-Mutairi, Consultant Urologist and Functional Urologist at Al-Amiri Hospital; Dr. Saeed Yaeesh, Consultant in Functional and Reconstructive Urology at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital; and Dr. Maryam Al-Mansouri, Consultant in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Female Urology at the Maternity Hospital.

The Kuwaiti doctors played a direct role in delivering the scientific content, training participants and discussing clinical experiences with specialists from several countries and medical disciplines. The Ministry of Health said the participation reflects the expertise of Kuwait’s specialized medical teams and their contribution to international continuing medical education and knowledge exchange.
