Tunis mosaic takes center stage in Kuwait at IWG-Tunisian Embassy event

Diplomats, artists and cultural leaders gather for spectacular Tunisian Mosaic Evening

The International Women’s Group (IWG), in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in Kuwait, hosted a cultural evening titled ‘Tunisian Mosaic: A Night of Lights’ on Sunday, May 17, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The event was attended by a number of ambassadors accredited to the State of Kuwait, cultural and media figures and guests interested in cultural and artistic affairs in Kuwait.

The evening was opened by the master of ceremonies, Mrs. Rima Al-Khalidi, wife of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine and Vice President of the Group, who welcomed the distinguished guests and members of the diplomatic corps.

In her opening remarks, IWG President Mrs. Marika Kochlamazashvili, wife of the Ambassador of the Republic of Georgia, spoke about the significance of the gathering, which marked the resumption of the group’s activities after a suspension of nearly two months due to regional tensions affecting Kuwait and the GCC countries. She noted that the occasion held additional importance as it coincided with Kuwaiti Women’s Day, celebrating the achievements and contributions of Kuwaiti women to society.

Mrs. Kochlamazashvili expressed her sincere gratitude to the Tunisian Embassy, His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Karim Boudali, and his spouse Mrs. Zeineb Mlika Boudali for organizing an evening that reflected Tunisia’s rich heritage, history, traditions, hospitality, and values of peace and unity.

She also conveyed her appreciation to the IWG’s Honorary President, Her Excellency Sheikha Hanouf Bader Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, and the Government of Kuwait for its wisdom and leadership during challenging times, emphasizing Kuwait’s role as a symbol of diplomacy, stability, and humanity in the region.

For his part, the Tunisian Ambassador affirmed the deep-rooted fraternal relations between Tunisia and Kuwait and the continued development of cooperation across various fields, particularly in the economic and cultural sectors. He praised the bonds of love, appreciation, and mutual respect shared by the two brotherly peoples.

He reiterated Tunisia’s firm support for Kuwait, its leadership, and its people, as well as its categorical rejection of any infringement upon Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also commended the wise leadership of Kuwait, represented by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, for their effective management of the challenges and exceptional circumstances faced by the country, which has further strengthened security, stability, and Kuwait’s standing as a model of wisdom and moderation.

The Ambassador thanked the IWG for the cultural initiative and stressed that “Tunisian Mosaic: A Night of Lights” served as a cultural and tourism platform highlighting Tunisia’s civilizational and cultural diversity. He noted that Tunisia, under the leadership of His Excellency President Kais Saied, has witnessed notable development in several sectors, particularly culture and tourism, which contributed to its selection as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2027 in recognition of its historical authenticity, cultural richness, natural beauty, and advanced tourism infrastructure.

In her speech, Mrs. Zeineb Mlika Boudali, wife of the Tunisian Ambassador, highlighted the important role Tunisian women have played throughout history and their contributions to diplomatic, legal, economic, social, and cultural life.

The evening featured a short documentary that took the audience on a journey through Tunisia’s history, from ancient civilizations including the Carthaginians and Romans to the Arab-Islamic era and modern Tunisia and Tunisia’s diverse cultural identity and heritage was also screened, highlighting the country’s most prominent tourist, archaeological, and natural landmarks and reinforcing its position as a leading tourist and cultural destination in the Arab world and internationally.

Guests also enjoyed musical performances by Tunisian artist Wafa Boukil and Tunisian artist Mohamed Omrani, who presented a selection of Tunisian and Kuwaiti songs blending authentic melodies with contemporary rhythms.

The program included a fashion show of traditional Tunisian attire inspired by various regions of Tunisia, reflecting the richness and diversity of Tunisian cultural heritage.

To showcase Tunisian cuisine, a dedicated corner presented a selection of traditional dishes that highlighted the diversity and authenticity of Tunisia’s culinary heritage. Tunisian products also attracted notable attention, particularly olive oil, internationally recognized for its exceptional quality and taste, as well as “Deglet Nour” dates, regarded among the finest Tunisian date varieties.

The event also featured an exhibition of Tunisian traditional crafts, displaying a variety of handicrafts that reflected the skill of Tunisian artisans and the richness of Tunisian cultural production. Models of Tunisia’s most prominent archaeological and historical landmarks and tourist attractions were also showcased, offering guests insight into the country’s heritage and tourism appeal.

In addition, an exhibition of Tunisian artwork highlighted the diversity and distinctiveness of Tunisian artistic expression. Guests admired the aesthetic and creative dimensions reflected in the paintings.

Before the conclusion of the program, the IWG board bid farewell to the outgoing 2025–2026 honorary board members, including President Mrs. Marika Kochlamazashvili, who in her speech thanked the board members, sponsors, government institutions, and the Crowne Plaza Hotel for their support throughout the year.

She described her tenure as president as “among the most wonderful and memorable experiences” of her life and expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to a year filled with success, inspiration, friendship, warmth, and unforgettable moments. Mrs. Kochlamazashvili also spoke warmly about Kuwait and its people, saying the country had become very dear to her heart and that her family truly felt at home here.
