Trump rules out war with OPEC, signals stronger Gulf partnership

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that President Donald Trump will not seek conflict with OPEC, assured Gulf states that “our partnership is back and stronger,” and revealed that the United States and Saudi Arabia are close to signing a nuclear energy agreement.

Chris Wright, the U.S. Secretary of Energy, indicated that efforts are underway to localize the peaceful nuclear energy industry within Saudi Arabia, expressing optimism about establishing a long-term partnership in this field.

Chris Wright, the U.S. Secretary of Energy, said on Sunday that President Donald Trump will not declare war on OPEC or seek conflict with the group, adding that his message to Gulf states is that “our partnership is back and stronger,” according to Arabic daily Al Rai.

Speaking to Al Arabiya News, the U.S. Secretary of State stressed that Washington will not accept a nuclear-armed Iran, noting it is still too early to tell whether talks with Tehran will lead to an agreement.

In a separate matter, Wright said the United States and Saudi Arabia are close to signing a significant agreement on peaceful nuclear energy and civil technology.

Speaking to the press in Riyadh, Wright said further details of the cooperation will be announced later this year.

Peaceful nuclear cooperation

He noted that the agreement will be based on the so-called “123 Agreement,” which governs peaceful nuclear cooperation between the United States and other countries under the U.S. Atomic Energy Act.

The U.S. Secretary of Energy indicated that efforts are underway to localize the peaceful nuclear energy industry within Saudi Arabia, expressing optimism about establishing a long-term partnership in this field.

He also noted that the agreement will include mutual investments in the energy sector, enhancing opportunities for growth and technological advancement between the two countries.

He emphasized that Saudi Arabia plays a significant role in promoting global stability and is committed to making the world a better place through its initiatives in the energy and technology sectors.
