Parliamentary Committee investigates ‘scandal of buying earned annual leave’

In a letter included in the agenda of the upcoming session, the committee requested government agencies to conduct internal investigations into the issue of vacation allowances. The committee revealed irregularities, including excessive spending of 422 million dinars beyond budget allocations for the fiscal year 2022/2023, in violation of constitutional provisions, reports Al-Jarida daily.

It highlighted inconsistencies in decisions and systems related to leaves, weak oversight, and exaggeration in salary values. The committee recommended internal investigations by government agencies, with results to be submitted to the Audit Bureau within three months.

A letter received from the Parliamentary Budgets and Final Accounts Committee brought back to the forefront the file of the “scandal of selling vacations” and its violations.

The letter that National Assembly Speaker Ahmed Al-Saadoun included on the agenda of next Tuesday’s session, to which members were officially invited to attend, the committee requested “assigning government agencies to conduct internal investigations into the issue of vacation allowance,” explaining that on November 29, it received the Audit Bureau’s report on the assignment.
