MoI Foils Major Drug Smuggling Attempt, Seizes 500,000 Captagon Pills
The Ministry of Interior foiled an attempt by a Gulf national to smuggle a large quantity of Captagon pills estimated at around half a million tablets.
The ministry represented by the General Department for Drug Control, announced on Wednesday, said in a press statement that the operation came within the framework of cooperation among Arab anti-narcotics agencies and ongoing coordination between the Criminal Security Office at the Embassy of Kuwait in Beirut and Lebanon’s Central Anti- Narcotics Office.
It stressed that the shipment, which arrived through a maritime border port and was registered as food items, was tracked and found to contain psychotropic substances concealed in a sophisticated manner, leading to coordination with the General Administration of Customs to seize it.
The ministry also announced the arrest of the intended recipient, noting that around 500,000 Captagon pills were found inside the shipment, intended for trafficking. The suspect and seized items have been referred to the competent authorities for legal action.
The Ministry of Interior affirmed its continued efforts to combat drug trafficking, enhance regional and international cooperation in pursuing smugglers, and enforce the law firmly to protect society from this serious threat.
