Italian Embassy celebrates National Day, highlights strong ties with Kuwait

The Italian Embassy in Kuwait hosted a reception on Tuesday to celebrate Italy’s National Day, Unity Day and Armed Forces Day, bringing together senior Kuwaiti officials, diplomats and representatives of international organizations to mark the occasion and highlight the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

Italian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Lorenzo Morini welcomed the guests and reaffirmed the strong strategic partnership between Kuwait and Italy, describing defence and military cooperation as a key pillar of bilateral relations founded on mutual trust, shared values and common principles.

The reception was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Al-Meshaan, Kuwait Air Force Commander Major General Staff Pilot Fahad Al-Khrenj, heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations in Kuwait.

In his address, Ambassador Morini highlighted the steady progress in bilateral relations and the commitment of both countries to expanding cooperation across various fields, particularly defence and security.

He described the recent visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Kuwait as an important milestone in relations. During the visit, Meloni met His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in the presence of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The visit resulted in the signing of several agreements and the adoption of the Kuwait-Italy Joint Action Plan for 2027-2030, which sets out a roadmap for strengthening cooperation over the next four years.

Morini said the plan covered political dialogue, defence and security, economic and judicial cooperation, as well as cultural, social and environmental affairs. He added that ensuring its implementation would be among his main priorities, in coordination with the relevant Kuwaiti authorities.

Highlighting the historical dimension of military relations, the ambassador recalled Italy’s participation in the liberation of Kuwait in 1991 and the decades of cooperation between the armed forces of both countries. This partnership has focused on exchanging expertise, improving coordination and developing joint capabilities.

He said the close defence ties reflected a shared commitment to regional security and stability, adding that Italy would continue to support Kuwait and strengthen cooperation in defence and security.

Morini concluded by underscoring the longstanding friendship between the Kuwaiti and Italian peoples and his commitment to turning bilateral agreements into practical initiatives that further strengthen the strategic partnership.
