A few media license holders in Kuwait violated conditions during candidate registration, resulting in license revocation and barring from election coverage at candidate headquarters or polling stations.
Lafi Al-Subaie, Assistant Undersecretary for Press, Publishing, and Publications at the Ministry of Information, affirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing all services and facilities to media professionals covering the 2024 National Assembly elections, starting from the candidate registration process.
Al-Subaie informed Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Tuesday that the ministry has enabled registration for media professionals who want to cover the elections via the website, issuing them the required licenses based on the stipulated conditions and guidelines.
He explained that the majority of license recipients demonstrated commitment to the instructions and guidelines, reflecting their professionalism and responsibility. However, a small number of media license holders violated the licensing conditions during the candidate registration period, despite their clarity and simplicity. As a result, their licenses were revoked, and they were barred from covering the elections at candidates’ headquarters or polling stations.
He urged all media outlets to maintain professionalism in covering the elections, ensuring that this democratic entitlement is presented in the best possible manner and reflects the true image of Kuwaiti media heritage.
