Kuwait set for stormy weekend with rain, strong winds, high waves

Kuwait’s Meteorology Department forecasts a deepening surface low pressure, combined with an upper-atmosphere low, bringing increased cloud cover and intermittent rain until Saturday evening. Rainfall will vary from light to moderate, with chances of thunderstorms and heavy downpours in some areas.

The Acting Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the rains will peak from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon. He noted that southerly winds will be active today and tomorrow, potentially causing dust storms, reduced visibility in open areas, and high sea waves.

Al-Ali added that the weather will gradually improve starting midnight on Saturday, with decreasing clouds and rainfall. He also noted a chance of fog forming on Sunday morning, especially in coastal areas.

Moreover, today, Thursday’s weather will be hot and partly to mostly cloudy, with moderate to active southeasterly to southerly winds reaching speeds of 20 to 55 km/h, potentially causing dust and scattered, occasionally thundery rain. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 31 and 33°C, while sea conditions will be moderate to high, with waves between 3 and 7 feet.

Tonight’s weather will be moderate and partly to mostly cloudy, with light to moderate southwesterly to southeasterly winds, occasionally active at speeds between 12 and 55 km/h. There is a chance of scattered, sometimes thundery rain, along with possible dust. The expected minimum temperature will range between 17 and 19°C, while sea conditions will be moderate to high, with waves between 3 and 6 feet.

Friday’s weather will be warm and cloudy to partly cloudy, with moderate to active southerly to southeasterly winds reaching speeds of 20 to 55 km/h, potentially causing dust storms. There is also a chance of scattered, sometimes thundery rain. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 27 and 29°C, while sea conditions will be moderate to high, with waves between 3 and 7 feet.

Friday night’s weather will be moderate and cloudy to partly cloudy, with southeasterly winds shifting to northwesterly at speeds of 15 to 45 km/h, occasionally becoming active. There is a chance of scattered, sometimes thundery rain. The expected minimum temperature will range between 14 and 16°C, while sea conditions will be moderate to high, with waves between 3 and 7 feet.

Saturday’s weather will be warm and partly to mostly cloudy, with light to moderate northwesterly winds, occasionally active at speeds between 12 and 40 km/h. There is a chance of scattered, sometimes thundery rain. The expected maximum temperature will range between 22 and 24°C, while sea conditions will be light to moderate, with waves occasionally reaching between 2 and 6 feet.

Saturday night will be cool, with a gradual decrease in rain chances. Northwesterly winds will be light to moderate, becoming active in coastal areas at speeds between 15 and 40 km/h. The expected minimum temperature will range between 13 and 15°C, while the sea will be light to moderate, with waves occasionally reaching between 2 and 6 feet.
