Iraqi airports have been notified to stop accepting Iranian aircraft as of midnight on Tuesday to comply with US sanctions, an Iraqi official has told Al Jazeera. The official said companies providing ground services to Iranian aircraft will also cease operations on Tuesday.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has pledged to “shut down” all Iranian airlines “around the world” as of Wednesday, as Washington seeks to cripple Iran’s economy and force the country’s leaders to make major concessions aimed at ending the war.
