Kuwait honored, secures sixth place at FIAP International Photography Biennial 2026 in Brazil
Kuwait has secured sixth place globally at the 37th FIAP International Black and White Photography Biennial, held in Brazil in 2026, marking a major achievement for Kuwaiti photography on the international stage.
The Kuwaiti Photographic Arts Society said the biennial brought together photographers from 33 countries, with a total of 340 photographic works. Each participating country submitted 10 photographs by 10 photographers, which were assessed by an international jury of photography experts from Argentina, Spain and Chile.
Kuwait scored 150 points in the overall evaluation, including 103 points for individual photographs and 47 points for the artistic cohesion and harmony of its collection, earning sixth place worldwide.
Ten Kuwaiti photographers represented the country at the event: Majed Al-Zaabi, Mohammed Murad, Talal Al-Rabbah, Mohammed Awad, Khalil Nadoum, Mohammed Khurshid, Yaqoub Al-Kandari, Mohammed Mirza, Mahdi Baqer and Abdulaziz Al-Asousi.
Mohammed Awad, Kuwait’s representative to FIAP and a board member of the Kuwaiti Photographic Arts Society, received the award during the federation’s events in Brazil. The ceremony also featured an exhibition of the winning photographs.
Ireland topped the global rankings with 189 points, followed by Spain, Russia, Italy and France, while Kuwait finished sixth, ahead of several countries with strong international reputations in photography.
The society said the achievement adds to Kuwait’s growing record in international photography and highlights the artistic quality and competitiveness of Kuwaiti photographers on the global stage.
The Kuwaiti Photographic Arts Society was officially registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs in December 2017. It serves as a platform for photographers to exchange expertise, organize exhibitions and participate in local and international photography activities.
