Kuwait is expected to experience very hot weather and strong northwesterly winds on Wednesday and Thursday, with blowing dust likely to reduce horizontal visibility, the Meteorological Department said.
Acting Director Dharar Al-Ali told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that weather maps and numerical models indicate the country will be affected by an extension of the Indian monsoon low, bringing a very hot and dry air mass and moderate to strong northwesterly winds exceeding 50 km/h.
The winds are expected to raise sand and dust, reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 metres in some areas, particularly open areas. The conditions are also expected to produce high waves at sea.
Temperatures will remain very high during the day, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 46°C and 48°C, while minimum temperatures are forecast at 35°C to 37°C. Al-Ali said conditions will remain hot to warm at night, with dust gradually settling during the evening.
Wind speeds are expected to gradually decrease from the early hours of Friday, bringing an improvement in weather conditions.
The Meteorological Department urged people with asthma, allergies and chronic illnesses, as well as children and the elderly, to take precautions when going outdoors because of the extreme heat and dusty conditions. It also advised wearing a face mask.
