Kuwaiti woman stunned, discovers thousands of dinars in accumulated traffic fines

A routine security check turned into a costly surprise for a Kuwaiti woman in her 50s after authorities discovered dozens of traffic violations registered in her name, amounting to thousands of dinars, according to a security source.
The violations came to light when officers entered her details into the Ministry of Interior’s automated system during a security campaign. What appeared on the system was a lengthy list of offenses, including speeding, running red lights and other traffic violations.
Authorities are now working to determine whether the violations were linked to one vehicle or several vehicles registered in her name, as well as when the offenses occurred and why the fines had remained unpaid.
The woman reportedly told officers that she was not familiar with using the Sahel application, suggesting that she may not have been aware of the violation notifications issued against her. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accumulation of the fines before deciding on further legal action.
The case comes as the Ministry of Interior urges motorists to keep track of their traffic records and settle outstanding violations before they are referred to the Traffic Court. The ministry warned that court referrals can lead to legally prescribed penalties, including fines or imprisonment, in addition to administrative measures depending on the nature of the offense.
