Government media office: Video of Independence Day speech is “fabricated and digitally altered using artificial intelligence”

Indian authorities urge the public not to be misled by deceptive content and to rely on official sources
India’s government media office, PIB Fact Check, has denied the authenticity of statements attributed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that allegedly criticized Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel and Pakistan. It confirmed that the circulating video was fabricated and digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence.
The office said the video circulating on social media, which shows Modi apparently delivering his Independence Day address, is fake and digitally altered. It stressed that the Indian prime minister did not make any of the statements contained in the video.
According to the Indian authorities, the manipulated clip contains remarks allegedly concerning Israel, Turkey and Pakistan, and urged the public not to be drawn into misleading or sensational content. People were advised to verify such claims through official government sources.
The denial comes after the video spread widely on social media, particularly in Arabic, carrying statements attributed to Modi about several countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as well as references to the Israeli prime minister.
The Indian side emphasized that the video does not represent the actual content of Modi’s Independence Day speech, and urged people to refer to the complete original recording of the speech to verify what was actually said.
The official denial makes clear that the statements contained in the circulating video do not represent the position of Prime Minister Modi or the Indian government, and that the video was digitally manipulated to falsely attribute statements to him.
