The French Embassy in Kuwait, under the patronage of the Ambassador of France and his spouse, hosted a special October Pink Café discussion at the French Residence. This event, part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aimed to promote early detection, prevention, and support for patients.
The event featured three distinguished speakers who shared their expertise and inspiring personal stories. Dr. Jinan Abdallah, a medical oncologist at the Kuwait Cancer Center and a French alumna, has over ten years of experience. Initially focused on lung and sarcoma cancers, she shifted her focus to breast cancer due to the increasing number of cases and the shortage of specialists in the region.
Dr. Jinan’s presentation emphasized the importance of screening, current controversies, and preventive strategies for breast cancer.
Dr. Rania Azmi, founder of the “Fadia Survive & Thrive” initiative in Kuwait and a global expert in management and philanthropy, has dedicated over 15 years to advocating for cancer patients. Her presentation focused on improving patients’ quality of life, proactive management of treatment side effects, and prevention strategies.
Menna Farag, a senior HR consultant, breast cancer survivor, and author of “When Cancer Messed With the Wrong Girl,” shared her personal journey of resilience and hope. She also highlighted her ongoing efforts to support other survivors and raise awareness.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Olivier Gauvin, the French Ambassador to Kuwait, underscored the importance of men’s involvement in raising awareness, noting that while breast cancer primarily affects women, about 1% of cases occur in men. Their participation is essential for strengthening solidarity and promoting a collective fight against this disease.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, fostering open dialogue on breast cancer awareness, prevention, and support.
October Pink is an initiative launched over three decades ago as a global campaign dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness, encouraging early detection, improving access to care, and supporting research to better understand and treat the disease.
