  • Two students and two security guards killed in shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga High School

At least four people were killed and nine others injured in a shooting at a high school in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines early Tuesday, according to local media reports and authorities.

The National Bureau of Investigation said the victims included two students and two security guards. The identities of those killed have not been released. Police said the shooting occurred shortly before classes were due to begin at Ateneo de Zamboanga High School.

Authorities identified the alleged shooter as a male fourth-year student at the school. According to reports, the suspect brought a pistol and a rifle onto the campus and opened fire inside a classroom “without apparent provocation.”

Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso said the alleged shooter and the victim were both students at the Jesuit-run private school. Video footage showed students fleeing a school building as a gunshot was heard.

Police and investigators remained at the scene as authorities worked to determine the motive and examine possible security lapses.
