Operations halted at UAE petrochemical giant after debris sets fire to facility

Borouge plant suspends production, operations paused for safety checks

Operations at the Borouge petrochemical complex in the United Arab Emirates have been suspended after multiple fires erupted following regional attacks, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

According to the emirate’s media office, the fires were triggered by falling debris resulting from successful interceptions by air defense systems. No injuries were reported, while emergency teams moved swiftly to contain the blazes.

Production at the facility has been halted as assessments are underway to evaluate the extent of the damage and ensure the safety of operations before any restart, dw.com reports.

The Borouge plant, located near the UAE’s western border with Saudi Arabia, is a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Borealis.

Earlier in the day, the UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed it was responding to missile and drone attacks launched from Iran, amid escalating regional tensions.
