  • Kuwait accelerates digital transformation and global investment partnerships in high-level New York talks

Kuwait is stepping up efforts to expand its international technology, investment and development partnerships, with artificial intelligence, digital transformation, data centres, cloud computing and the development of national skills taking centre stage in a series of high-level meetings in New York.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, held talks with senior executives from some of the world’s leading technology and financial institutions on Monday evening, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meetings brought together Microsoft Vice Chairman and President Brad Smith, Alphabet and Google President and Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga and Executive Director Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al-Mulla, as well as senior representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce and the US-Kuwait Business Council.

The discussions focused on translating Kuwait’s strategic partnerships with global companies and institutions into projects that support the country’s digital transformation, investment environment and wider development objectives. During his meeting with Smith, the Crown Prince reviewed the latest developments in the strategic agreement between Kuwait and Microsoft and preparations for the opening of Microsoft’s largest digital innovation centre in the region in Kuwait in the coming weeks.

The talks also covered opportunities to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and data centres, areas viewed as central to developing Kuwait’s technology infrastructure and strengthening national capabilities. The Microsoft engagement places the upcoming digital innovation centre at the heart of Kuwait’s expanding technology partnership with the US-based technology giant, while also linking digital infrastructure with the development of specialised national talent.

The Crown Prince also met Porat to review progress under the framework agreement between the Kuwaiti government and Google Cloud. Discussions covered strategic projects involving digital transformation, cloud computing infrastructure, data centres and the development of digital skills among Kuwaiti nationals. The two sides also discussed prospects for broader cooperation between Kuwait and Alphabet, with the talks focusing on technology and digital projects that support Kuwait’s development objectives.

In another meeting, the Crown Prince received Banga and Al-Mulla of the World Bank Group. The discussions examined the latest efforts to train and develop national cadres and explored the World Bank’s technical expertise in supporting Kuwait’s development goals. The meeting also addressed opportunities to strengthen cooperation in development and advisory fields, while the two sides exchanged views on regional and international economic and development issues and efforts to finance sustainable development.

The Crown Prince’s meetings extended beyond technology and development to Kuwait’s broader economic and investment relationship with the United States. He received representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce and the US-Kuwait Business Council, including senior Chamber and business council officials, State Street Executive Vice President Donna Milford, in her capacity as chair of the US-Kuwait Business Council, and Franklin Templeton Investments President and CEO Jenny Johnson.

During the meeting, the Crown Prince stressed the importance of the American Chamber of Commerce and the US-Kuwait Business Council in supporting and strengthening economic, trade and investment ties between Kuwait and the United States. The discussions examined ways to expand bilateral economic, trade and investment relations and highlighted investment opportunities in Kuwait for major American companies and institutions across vital sectors.
