Digital follow-up initialised to implement government program
The General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development is leading the charge in digitalizing government program management. This initiative will enhance transparency and efficiency in tracking project progress.
The General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development has directed government agencies to assign their specialists to adopt project data and legislative requirements in the automated system for preparing and following up on the government’s work program with the Secretariat.
Some government agencies have begun taking the necessary steps to adopt project data and legislative requirements in the automated system, which will allow for the submission of periodic reports on the program’s implementation status to the Cabinet.
Informed sources told Al-Rai that this step will allow for accurate monitoring of the progress of the projects included in the program and will provide insight into the implementation progress of each ministry and government agency. It will also allow for the identification of challenges and obstacles and work to overcome them.
According to the sources, some of the potential challenges include those related to the work environment, such as sudden administrative changes, lack of coordination between departments of the responsible entity, and overlapping competencies. Other challenges include those related to the human element, such as multiple layers of supervision and decision-makers, a shortage of skilled labor and project management specialists, and a lack of accountability.
The sources also pointed out that there are technological challenges, such as the lack of digitization and management of projects, the existence of an old infrastructure with inaccurate data, and challenges related to methodologies and measurement of work indicators, most notably the lack of performance indicators for project stages and delays in reporting errors.
