Court jails five over fake chalet scam, imposes 5.3 million dinars fine

The Kuwaiti Criminal Court has sentenced five men, including a Kuwaiti citizen, three Egyptians, and a stateless person, to five years in prison each and imposed a combined fine of 5.316 million dinars after convicting them in a major real estate fraud case involving the sale of fake chalets in Al-Khairan and a resort project in Egypt.
The ruling was issued by the Criminal Court headed by Counselor Abdullah Al-Osaimi, while two other defendants were acquitted of the charges.
According to the case files, the defendants were accused of deceiving victims through fraudulent real estate schemes linked to chalet projects in Al-Khairan and a resort development in Egypt, collecting substantial sums from buyers through false sales and misleading promotional activities.
Lawyer Ali Al-Attar, partner at Mishari Al-Osaimi Law Firm and Legal Consultations and legal representative for a number of victims, said the ruling confirms the legal responsibility of companies organizing real estate exhibitions toward protecting investors and buyers.
Al-Attar stated that the judgment reinforces the application of the Ministry of Commerce regulations governing real estate exhibitions, particularly Resolution No. 239/2013, which outlines the obligations and liabilities of exhibition organizers.
He stressed the importance of enforcing court rulings and taking the necessary legal measures to restore the rights of victims who purchased projects promoted through licensed real estate exhibitions during that period.
