Azerbaijan-Kuwait ties evolving steadily into strategic partnership

• His Excellency Emil Karimov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Kuwait, announced at the Kuwait National Library that Shusha was named the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2024, highlighting its swift reconstruction under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership.
His Excellency Emil Karimov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the country, emphasized that the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Kuwait are strategic, progressing rapidly and steadily across all sectors. He noted that both official and public ties are strong and deep, encompassing political, cultural, religious, and other areas, as reported by Al Qabas newspaper.
During a ceremony at the Kuwait National Library, Ambassador Karimov, speaking on the occasion of the declaration of Shusha – Cultural Capital of the Islamic World 2024, said that the city of Shusha was designated the cultural capital of Azerbaijan and the Islamic world for 2024 at the 12th Conference of Ministers of Culture, held in Doha, Qatar, on September 25, 2023. The event was attended by a large number of ambassadors and officials.
Restoration of historical, cultural, and religious monuments
He highlighted that the reconstruction of Shusha, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, was completed in a short period of time. This included the restoration of historical, cultural, and religious monuments, with the aim of transforming the city into a hub for international events, forums, and Islamic world conferences. The efforts have been widely praised by various cultural, scientific, and religious organizations.
Siham Al-Azmi, the Director of the National Library, commended Kuwait-Azerbaijan relations, applauding the embassy’s efforts to strengthen the ties between the two countries.
Azerbaijan-Turkey partnership becomes a regional model of success
Meanwhile, Tuba Nur Sönmez, the Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait, remarked that Turkey and Azerbaijan are not merely two countries but one nation, with their destinies intertwined due to shared history, culture, and aspirations.
She added, “Under the leadership of our presidents, our partnership has reached an ideal level and become a model for the region and beyond. The challenges faced by one are felt by the other, and successes are shared in unity.”
H.E. Dr. Mohammad Totonji, the Iranian Ambassador, stated that the selection of Shusha as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2024 is an honor, reflecting the city’s enduring heritage as a center for art, music, and cultural exchange.
