MoI arrests gang involved in stealing KOC cables valued at KD 420,000
The Ministry of Interior announced Monday the arrest of a criminal gang of citizens and Arab and Asian expatriates involved in stealing 400 tons of marine cables belonging to Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), valued at about KD 420,000 (around USD 1.386 million).
The ministry said in a statement that the arrests came as part of ongoing efforts by the criminal security sector to protect state assets and property.
Investigations revealed that one suspect exploited his position at KOC, erased the cables’ serial numbers and prepared forged documents to remove them. Another posed as an engineer to market the stolen cables, while a third bought and resold them at the Amghara scrapyard using forged documents.
Following legal authorization, security authorities arrested the suspects and seized cash and assets believed to be proceeds of the crime, including KD 37,000, gold jewelry and a vehicle from one suspect, and KD 26,210 and USD 1,000 from another.
The stolen cables were recovered in coordination with KOC, and the forged stamp used in the operation was also seized.
The ministry said the suspects were referred to the competent authorities after legal procedures were completed, reaffirming its commitment to protecting national assets and enforcing the law against all offenders. – Kuna
