U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the military to “shoot down” and “destroy” small Iranian boats suspected of obstructing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, announcing the launch of intensified mine-clearing operations in the strategic waterway.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated: “I have instructed the United States Navy to fire upon and destroy any and all boats, regardless of size, that are planting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.”
He added, “There should be no hesitation. Our minesweepers are currently clearing the Strait.”
The president further directed that the operation be expanded, saying: “I hereby order that this process continue, but at a level three times greater.”
In a separate statement, Trump claimed that Iran is facing internal divisions over its leadership, describing a struggle between “hardliners,” who he said are sustaining heavy battlefield losses, and “moderates,” whom he noted are gaining increasing recognition.
He also asserted that the United States “completely controls” the Strait of Hormuz, without providing supporting evidence, adding that the vital waterway would remain “tightly closed” until Iran reaches an agreement.
