Kuwait remains committed to UNCITRAL Model Law
The State of Kuwait affirmed its commitment to actively participating in and contributing to the updating and amendment of the UNCITRAL Model Law.
This came in a statement made by Abdullah Buqrais, a member of the Kuwaiti delegation from the Fatwa and Legislation Department, on Friday evening during the 83rd session of Working Group II (Dispute Settlement) of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
Buqrais stated that the meeting addressed legal amendments to enhance the recognition and enforcement of arbitration awards issued electronically, keeping pace with developments and aiming to facilitate international trade and investment.
The Kuwaiti delegation also included Advisor and Deputy Director of the Department, Tahani AlRashidi, and Attorney Abdullah Buqrais.
The UNCITRAL Model Law aims to assist countries in reforming and updating their laws related to arbitration procedures to address the specific characteristics and needs of international commercial arbitration.
The law covers all stages of the arbitration process, from the arbitration agreement and the composition and jurisdiction of the arbitral tribunal to the scope of the court’s intervention through the recognition and enforcement of the arbitral award.
