70 youth teams ignite Kuwait’s future through robotics and drone innovation

Where talent meets technology youth redefine innovation at National Robotics and Drone Qualifiers

A wave of ambition and scientific passion swept through the Higher Center on Saturday as 70 youth teams showcased their talents in the qualifying rounds of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship, an event jointly organized by Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Youth. The initiative forms part of a broader national drive to embed applied learning and cultivate advanced skills in science, technology, and innovation among students.

The qualifiers featured the internationally recognized VEX Robotics Competition alongside advanced aerial drone challenges, offering participants hands-on exposure to coding, mechanical engineering, design thinking, teamwork, and analytical problem-solving. These experiences are designed to prepare students for higher levels of competition and equip them with practical competencies aligned with future technological careers.

Mohammed Al-Sanousi, Deputy Director General for Visitor Experience at the Scientific Center, emphasized that hosting such events reflects the Center’s educational mission to transform learning into an interactive, experience-based journey. He noted that these competitions serve as a dynamic platform for discovering and refining technical talent, while nurturing a generation capable of engaging confidently with the demands of a rapidly evolving world.

Dr. Haider Behbehani, Acting Dean of the College of Science at Kuwait University, highlighted the high caliber of performance demonstrated by the participants. He explained that the qualifiers revealed exceptional abilities in robotics, engineering, and programming, underscoring the strong scientific readiness and creative potential present among Kuwaiti youth.

Behbehani added that the competitions were marked by a high degree of innovation, collaborative spirit, and structured thinking, qualities that will qualify the best teams to advance to the championship finals scheduled for February. He stressed that such events play a vital role in shaping students’ academic direction and strengthening their practical expertise.

From the Public Authority for Youth, Assistant Undersecretary for Youth Activities Ghazi Al-Jalawi reaffirmed that investing in scientific and technological programs is a strategic priority. He stated that empowering young talents in advanced fields is essential to building a competitive, knowledge-based generation capable of contributing to Kuwait’s future development.
