Kuwait Welcomes US-Iran Understanding, Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Stability
Sheikh Jarrah and Iranian Counterpart Discuss Regional Security and Diplomacy
Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah received a telephone call on Thursday from the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Abbas Araqchi, during which the two sides discussed regional developments and efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability.
During the conversation, Sheikh Jarrah expressed Kuwait’s hope that the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran would contribute to strengthening regional stability, safeguarding the security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and helping resolve outstanding issues through sustainable and constructive solutions.
The foreign minister emphasized Kuwait’s longstanding position that relations among nations should be guided by the principles of international law and the values enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. He underscored the importance of good-neighborly relations, respect for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states, and non-interference in their internal affairs.
Sheikh Jarrah also stressed the need to refrain from the use or threat of force, resolve disputes through peaceful dialogue and diplomacy, and end support for proxy activities that could undermine regional security. He noted that adherence to these principles would help reinforce peace and stability while serving the shared interests of the countries and peoples of the region.
The call reflected the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation among regional partners to address common challenges and promote lasting peace and prosperity across the Gulf and the wider Middle East.
