Former Indian President’s Press Secretary passes away at 67
S M Khan, a retired IAS officer and former Press Secretary to A P J Abdul Kalam from 2002–2007, authored The People’s President, a book recounting his experiences with Dr. Kalam.
• Born on June 15, 1957, in Uttar Pradesh, S M Khan was a law graduate from Aligarh Muslim University, where he won the Chancellor’s Gold Medal.
S M Khan, a retired IAS officer and Press Secretary to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, passed away at 67 in New Delhi on Sunday Nov 17. Khan, who also served as the CBI spokesperson from 1989 to 2002, died at a private hospital in Saket. His burial will took place on Monday in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh.
S M Khan authored the book The People’s President, sharing his experiences with Dr. Kalam. He also served as Director of Jamia Hamdard Residential Coaching Academy.
Born on June 15, 1957, in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh, Khan was a law graduate from Aligarh Muslim University, where he won the Chancellor’s Gold Medal. He later studied Economics at the University of Wales.
Khan was the face of the CBI during his 13-year tenure, handling high-profile cases. After his role with President Kalam, he became Director General (News) at Doordarshan and was a vice president and trustee at the India Islamic and Cultural Centre, Delhi.
Kuwait based businessman Saulat Ali Khan expressed his deep condolences over the demise of a dear friend who always extended support and cooperation to Kuwait based Indian businessmen.
He was instrumental in setting up meetings with the then president of India A P J Kalam with a Kuwait based Indian delegation and always provided a helping hand when needed.
