The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday that American military forces remain fully prepared to ensure compliance with all aspects of the agreement reached with Iran, while continuing operations aimed at safeguarding navigation through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement CENTCOM said, US forces remain “present and vigilant” to guarantee the implementation and continued enforcement of the agreement, emphasizing that military operations in the Strait of Hormuz are ongoing to support freedom of navigation and regional maritime security.
The command noted that shipping traffic through the strait increased during the day, reflecting improving stability in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors following recent tensions that disrupted regional trade and energy exports.
According to CENTCOM, 55 vessels carrying more than 17 million barrels of oil destined for global markets transited the Strait of Hormuz, underlining the strategic importance of maintaining uninterrupted maritime movement through the waterway, reports a local Arabic daily.
The statement comes amid ongoing international monitoring of the aftermath of the recent US-Iran conflict and subsequent diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring stability in the Gulf region and preventing further disruptions to global energy supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil transit chokepoints, handling a significant share of global crude and liquefied natural gas exports, particularly from Gulf producers including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, the Iranian forces have announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic after it was reopened under a memorandum of understanding with the United States.
In a statement, it said, “Given the United States’ blatant breach of its commitments and violation of the agreement by failing to implement the first clause of the understanding to end the war, and in response to the ongoing and continuous violations of the ceasefire by the Zionist entity in southern Lebanon… we announce that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to maritime traffic.”
