Iran Declares Strait of Hormuz Closed, Cites Israeli Actions and US Violations

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced on Saturday the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, warning ships against approaching the vital waterway as their safety would be jeopardized.

The Revolutionary Guard’s naval public relations office said in a statement that Strait has been closed, and ships should not approach, otherwise their safety will be jeopardized.

The statement added that due to the “crimes” of the Israeli occupation in Lebanon an America’s violation of its ceasefire commitments, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to all ships.

The US and Iran were expected to sign a deal in Switzerland yesterday Friday) as part of the efforts to end the war that began late February, with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz being a major factor in the deal.
