UAE firefighting teams successfully extinguish Kuwaiti oil tanker’s fire

The government of Dubai confirmed that firefighting teams successfully extinguished the fire that broke out on the Kuwaiti oil tanker Al-Salmi after an Iranian drone attack at Dubai Port.
The Dubai Media Office stated in a statement on Tuesday that relevant teams are currently conducting a post-incident assessment. It also noted all 24 crew members of Al- Salmi have been safely evacuated and remain unharmed. It affirmed that further information will be shared as it becomes available.
Earlier, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) announced that the Al-Salmi was targeted by a “direct and malicious” drone attack at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday while stationed in UAE waters.
In a statement to KUNA, KPC disclosed that the vessel was fully laden at the time of the incident. It unveiled that preliminary assessments indicate structural damage to the ship’s hull, which triggered the onboard fire.
KPC warned of a potential environmental hazard due to the risk of an oil spill in the surrounding maritime zone. KPC reiterated that there were no casualties and confirmed that a comprehensive damage assessment is underway. It added that coordination with UAE authorities is ongoing to ensure the integrity of the vessel and the protection of the marine environment.
