China announced on Tuesday the successful maiden test flight of the world’s largest unmanned cargo aircraft, with a maximum takeoff weight of seven tons.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the unmanned aircraft, named Changying-8, was independently developed by China North Industries Groups Corporation.
It completed a 30-minute trial flight at an airport in Zhengzhou, southern China. The report stated that the aircraft required a runway distance of only 280 meters for takeoff and successfully underwent testing of key systems and overall flight performance.
Described as an “aerial truck,” the aircraft features a cargo capacity of 18 cubic meters and can carry a maximum payload of 3.5 tons, with a range exceeding 3,000 kilometers.
The aircraft is intended for long-distance logistics transport, emergency relief supply delivery, support for border outposts, and operations in areas with complex terrain, contributing to the development of low-altitude economy and rapid delivery services.
