The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Kuwait, H.E. Vladimir Zheltov, praised the wisdom, foresight, and balanced diplomacy of Kuwait’s leadership in addressing regional and international developments, affirming that relations between Kuwait and Russia continue to grow steadily across multiple sectors despite rapid global changes.

Speaking during a reception hosted by the Russian Embassy on Thursday evening to mark Russia’s National Day, Ambassador Zheltov highlighted the depth of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The event was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, along with ambassadors, diplomats, and prominent guests.

The Russian envoy stated that cooperation between Kuwait and Russia spans a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, energy, military-technical cooperation, culture, education, and humanitarian exchange.

He noted that tourism has also emerged as a promising pillar for strengthening ties between the two peoples, particularly with the growing interest of Gulf visitors traveling to Russia, opening new opportunities for cultural and humanitarian engagement.

Ambassador Zheltov pointed out that relations between Kuwait and Russia extend well beyond the formal establishment of diplomatic ties 63 years ago. He recalled that the earliest contacts between the two nations date back to the early twentieth century, when Russian naval ships visited the Gulf during the reign of the late Sheikh Mubarak Al-Kabeer.

He added that Kuwait became the first Gulf country to establish diplomatic relations with the former Soviet Union in 1963, laying the foundation for a strong and enduring partnership that has continued to develop over the decades.

The ambassador expressed confidence that friendly relations and cooperation between Kuwait and Russia will continue to flourish in the years ahead, serving the mutual interests of both countries while contributing to regional and international security, stability, and prosperity.

Addressing regional developments, the Russian envoy said the world is currently passing through a historic phase marked by profound and rapid transformations. He stressed that the instability and security risks facing the Middle East require collective political and diplomatic solutions based on dialogue and respect for international law.

On the international level, he stated that the global order is gradually moving toward greater balance and multilateralism, although this transition still faces challenges and attempts to preserve unilateral approaches.

He reaffirmed Russia’s support for a multipolar international system founded on sovereign equality among states, respect for international law, and the principle of equal and indivisible security for all nations.

The ambassador also emphasized that Russia regards the Arab world as a reliable partner and valued friend, with relations built on mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and consideration of the legitimate interests of all parties — an approach he said applies particularly to the State of Kuwait.
