The Embassy of South Africa in partnership with the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyaah (DAI) of Kuwait will host a South African Music Awards and Grammy Award-winning South African musician, Wouter Kellerman and His Group at the Al Yarmouk Theatre on Wednesday, 17 April 2019 at 7:00 pm.

Wouter Kellerman is recognised as one of South Africa’s foremost musicians, with an extensive, and a growing global following. He is famous for his ability to traverse from African music to western classical music and to jazz.  He is the second South African musician to win a Grammy Award since Miriam Makeba was honoured by the Recording Academy in 1966.

Kellerman’s Winds of Samsara, a collaboration with Indian composer and producer Ricky Kej, was named a winner in the Best New Age Album category at the 57th Annual Grammy® Awards in 2015.

Kellerman won the 2011 SAMA (South African Music Award, the SA equivalent of the GRAMMY) for ‘Best Instrumental Album’, reinforcing his status as one of South Africa’s foremost musicians. His song writing was a particular highlight of Love Language with ‘The Long Road’, a solo flute piece written by Kellerman for Nelson Mandela, winning the Global Peace Song Award in the public-voted Acoustic/Contemporary Music category.

Kellerman performed at the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup closing Ceremony to a global television audience of 700-million people.
